Roland Hernandez is a percussionist and educator from Houston, TX. He graduated with a Bachelors of Music in Music Education from the University of Houston in May 2022, where he had the honor of studying under Dr. Blake Wilkins, Mr. Alec Warren, and Mr. Craig Hauschildt. After graduating, he moved to Florida to study at Florida State University, earning his Masters of Arts in Arts Administration.

While he was at the University of Houston, he was the principal percussionist for two ensembles - Symphonic Winds and the Wind Ensemble. He also performed with the Symphony Orchestra, Percussion Ensemble, Steel Band Ensemble, and the Spirit of Houston. While at Florida State University, even though studying administration, he played with the Campus Band, World Music Ensemble, and the FSU Chamber Choir.

After graduating from Florida State, he moved to Indianapolis, Indiana to become the Programs Coordinator for Percussive Arts Society. While there, he managed a majority of programs that PAS offered, such as Chamber Competitions and I&E Contests. He built and maintained great relationships across the percussion community, whether it be professional groups, solo artists, or professors at multiple universities.

Mr. Hernandez had the privilege to march with multiple drum corps in the front ensemble. Starting out with the Guardians in 2017, he made his way to the Colts in 2018, and finalized his career with the Bluecoats from 2019 - 2021, helping them earn a silver medal in 2019. He was also active in WGI, marching Monarch Independent from 2019 - 2022, and serving as the Ensemble Captain in his last year. After aging out, he taught the front ensemble at Music City Drum Corps, the Mandarins, and Infinity Percussion, the latter in which he plays an active role. Mr. Hernandez is grateful to learn from many outstanding educators during his marching career including Jake Lyons, Andy Filipiak, Tom Rarick, Dr. Ryan Kilgore, Brad Palmer, Allen Justus, and many more.

Moving back to Houston is extremely exciting, since he enjoys spending time with his friends and family. When he is not teaching, Mr. Hernandez also loves working out, reading, playing video games, and is an avid movie-goer.
